Stop and Gasp at the Roses

My roses are abundant and thriving in my back yard. I have been going outside to admire them in the morning light, during the hottest time of the day, and not in the evening. I just can’t get enough. The curves of the petals. The variations of color. The way they sway in the wind. And of course the smell. The sweetest of smells that stop my mind for a moment as my whole body, mind and spirit take in the scent. 

The old adage, stop and smell the roses, is all about getting out of our routine, the busyness, the expected and choosing to savor the beauty that we are surrounded by. The lovely scent of roses. The particular shade of the sky at this very moment. The sound of birds chirping when day breaks. With the intention of gratitude we can even take something as simple as a shadow and savor it, noticing it fully, taking it in right now knowing it won’t be the same in a few minutes.

Get out of your busy routine and say yes to the beauty that is around you. Notice it. Appreciate it. Share your appreciation with others. And do it again tomorrow. Amass an abundance of grateful moments.
