Seeing Spring in a New Light
Spring Equinox Full Moon
Last night to celebrate the spring equinox and full moon I decided to go outside under the full moon and immerse myself in nature. I love being out in nature and I am often grateful for plants and flowers and wildlife and weather and mountains and streams and so much more. I have a few memories of doing that, usually when I am traveling or camping. But it is so rare for me to immerse myself in nature during nighttime besides gazing up at the sky and appreciating the moon and stars.
But last night I became transfixed by the blooms of my forsythia under the moonlight. I am in love with that plant during spring with its early blooms, the first of the season, drawing me outside. The blooms are the brightest yellow, so bright they seem to be lit from within. Under the moonlight last night I literally and figuratively saw them in a new light. They looked so different with the soft glowing light of the moon. I could still make out the color but it was much more subtle and the petals took on this velvety softness.
There were so many things I had never noticed before. So many ways that the soft light of the moon changed what I saw. There was so much more to be grateful for. And it reminded me that when I intentionally see things differently it can open up unexpected gratitude. And also just intending to find gratitude can help me see things in a new light as well.
It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.
~Henry David Thoreau
