A day like the one before. Or is it?
We Don't Have a Day of Thanks. We Have a Life of Thanks.
Sometimes my days and weeks go by in a blur. One day seems to be virtually identical to the one before. Work, read, write, eat, repeat. But then each night I sit and reflect on what I am grateful for. I look back on my day and moments emerge. Moments that make that particular day different. Sometimes these are moments of magic like when I drove down my street and witnessed my neighbor's tree dropping it's leaves; a waterfall of brilliant yellow leaves raining down. Moments that might seem mundane but the noticing and appreciating make that moment so much more. Like that first sip of tea this morning, slightly sweet and warm and comforting.
Finding gratitude at night before I go to sleep rewrites my day. It tells a different story. A story of moments that stood out or ordinary moments that may have gone unnoticed. And through our gratitude those moments are moments of possibility. Moments of appreciation. This is one of the wonderful things that happen when we not only practice gratitude but also strive to be grateful for different things each day. We sit down to reflect on our day and we challenge ourselves to notice and appreciate special moments in an ordinary day.
And we do it day after day.
I try to be grateful for the abundance of the blessings that I have, for the journey that I’m on and to relish each day as a gift.
