Beaming With Joy
You know me. I am so damn serious all the time. Well almost all the time. Especially when I am in professional, work, learning and healing modes. But the lesson that has emerged for me recently is fun, smiles, happiness, great big joy for no reason at all. Or for every reason.
It all started with being in ceremony in my Curanderismo community. A ceremony that is always reverent, connecting to creator and nature which leads it to be pretty serious. But at this particular ceremony one of the Curanderas was laughing loudly and making animal noises and starting a chain of laughter. Then a couple days ago I participated in a healing temazcal and during the intense sweat ceremony as the heat began to overwhelm me and sweat poured off of my body a giant smile emerged across my face. And it stayed. That smile. The quickness with which I am seeing the humor in situations. That light feeling.
What a lovely change of pace from all the grief and loss and seriousness. Sometimes it's nice to just feel good and have fun. And it is healing, isn't it?
I know you might not naturally be here in this joyful state. But sometimes all it takes is just an openness to fun in order to connect with that authentic joy. What if almost everything was a reason to smile? Let's start with the things that often make us smile. Then think about those unexpected smiles. How long would your smile list be? What would it take to welcome some of that joy into your day today?
Wishing you some lightness. Some joy. And lots and lots of smiles.
We suffer only because we take seriously what the gods made for fun.
