Heart of Gratitude in Service

How can I be of service to you? How can you be of service to others?

Being of Service in a Transactional World

This Monday was Martin Luther King, Jr Day and more specifically it was the Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service. But what if we use our gratitude practice to inspire us to be of service not one day but as a way of life?

It feels good to give with a generous heart without expecting anything in return. It also feels good to receive with a generous heart without expecting anything in return. But these can be difficult practices in the transactional world we live in. I give you this so you give me that. I am generous because you've been generous. I hold the door for others because someone else held the door for me.

Our gratitude practice is already a way that we break free from the transactional world. We aren't saying we are grateful so we can get something. And often times we aren't even saying we are grateful because we received something. We are choosing to see the world through a lens of gratitude. Abundant never-ending gratitude.

I love the idea of flipping my gratitude practice to one of generous unconditional giving. I don't want to just say thank you, I want to inspire thank yous. But because I am trying to break free of the transactional world I don't need to receive a thank you for my service. Because it creates its own thank you within my own heart through the act of giving. Because it feels good to be of service. Haha but even that isn't necessary because if we are giving with a generous and unconditional heart then we don't even need to feel good to make it worth it.

This is a beautiful thing to contemplate.

What can I do to be a light in the world? What can I do to be a humble bowing servant? What can I do to leave this day better than it was before? In what ways can I practice gratitude through cultivating a heart of service in big and small ways?

Let's start right now.

We'll learn by doing.

Unconditionally.

Gratefully.

What are you grateful to experience when you do something unconditionally to be of service to others?
