Wise Wounds

That place that hurts.

This Isn’t Your Last Wound

There is a wound.
Slashing through your heart.
Or is it your body?
Your soul?
It screams out to you in pain
fresh and bloody.
Or the throb of an ancient hurt
muted but etched in stone.
It begs for your attention.
It buckles your resolve.
It’s teaching you a lesson.
Of who you really are.

You’ll want to ignore it.
Dismiss it.
Pretend.
But it wants you to rise.
To start to feel it all.
To fall.
To get back up.
It reminds you that you can.
That you must.
Your work is to rise.

The strengths of your ancestors
supporting you.
Every fallen leaf
supporting you.
The solid earth of yesterday
and tomorrow
supporting your rise.

Your rise.
Your rise above.
Your rise through.
With wounds
and a quilt of new skin
holding you.
Stitched with every yes
With every thank you.
You rise.
