Writing Love Letters: Dear Morning …

A Month of Love Letters

Today I received a lovely message with an invitation to write a month of love letters. But these aren’t your average love letters. These are love letters to ourselves, our bodies, our feelings and the world around us. In short they are a lovely gratitude practice. Today is April 4th and it is Dear Morning. So here it goes.

Dear Morning,

You begin my days with light. Quiet. Quiet interrupted by lovely bird songs fill the minutes between my snooze. When you come my favorite song plays to announce your arrival. I jump up and venture to the other room only to catch a few more zzzzs on the couch. Every time you are here I am able to move my body. My mind is awakened with thoughts of the day ahead of me. Thank you, for all of this. And thank you for always being there for me … no matter what. Sometimes I grumble and complain at your arrival but it doesn’t stop you. You shine on bringing new possibilities, new chances to start again, new reminders of who I am. I love you. I love your tenacity and your reliability. I love that you are abundance. I love that you are big and bright and don’t hold back. I love that you give me pause to reflect and to be grateful. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I can’t wait to go to sleep and see you anew once again tomorrow.

With love and gratitude,

quoteWhen you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive; to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.
~Marcus Aurelius

What are you grateful for about the morning?

LEARNING: Today I was listening to a podcast and the woman said to lean into what we already are. She said to look right at the so-called worst things about ourselves and figure out a way to celebrate them. This is just what I needed to hear because I have been wanting to write about the fact that I am so quick to irritability and how I can be such a fault-finder. But I have not been clear about how this fits with gratitude. I mean I know the two fit together because they do inside me I just didn’t have the words for it. Hearing her advice to celebrate my worst things was the big aha I have been waiting for.

FORGOTTEN GRATITUDE: Last week I was also grateful for the tree house of my dreams with the one I love … The chance to wear a cape, be silly and have fun … Catching up on sleep.
