Is There Someone You’d Like to Connect With?
You know I’m always talking about how important noticing is as a first step to being grateful. That can be true for nature, our work or home, and also for the people we care about. Is there someone you would like to have a deeper connection with? Maybe your significant other, someone in your family or a friend?
Try this:
For a few days, NOTICE. Observe them with curiosity. You will learn about them based on your observations. Here’s some questions to guide you.
- What is important to them?
- What makes them smile?
- What are they grateful for?
- What do they hope?
- What are they feeling?
Then ask yourself, “In what ways do they make my life better?”
Finally tell them what you learned. Tell them what you appreciate about them. Tell them why it matters to you. Tell them what you noticed.
I wrote these questions out on my large chalkboard and it is a nice reminder. So I decided to create a printable for you to hang somewhere to remind you.
When you practice gratefulness, there is a sense of respect toward others.
~Dalai Lama
What do you appreciate about your life with them in it?
LEARNING: Adapt adapt adapt. I picked up my phone to share my gratitude but the website wouldn’t load and I kept getting frustrated. Until I realized the point of all of this and joyfully changed course. So I wrote out my gratitude on a nice graphic and it was awesome. Rigidity in any practice can make us removed from the intention of the practice.
FORGOTTEN GRATITUDE: Last week I was also grateful for lily-takers … Popcorn! … A creative tweak that took some jewelry from undesirable to amazing … Appreciation in thoughts but not letting it stay there, the words shared were beautiful.
