The Power of What You Are Not Grateful For

Don’t Ignore That Big Void of Gratitude

Did you reflect on 2015? If so, there were probably a few regrettable things that stood out. If you were reflecting with gratitude you may have just skipped right over those negative parts. Or maybe you still were able to find something you are grateful for. But within the center was a big void of gratitude.

When you encounter that void of gratitude, look at it deeper. Don’t be afraid. It looks murky and scary but inside is a compass. This compass is directing you to your values. When we have regrets it is because something is not in alignment with what matters most. Take responsibility. Instead of judging yourself, others or the situation, you can use it as an opportunity to learn about yourself. What is important to you that is not being met because of this behavior/situation?

But don’t stop there … Now, you have learned (or relearned) what is important to you. What will you do to take this learning into action? A compass without action is useless. Then, after all this, we find gratitude for that initial thing that we didn’t like. Lovely.

Here is a great resource for your gratitude reflection of 2015. Download. Print. Reflect.

quoteIt is incredibly disempowering to make others responsible for your lack of happiness.
~Colin Tipping

Think of something this year that you are not grateful for. What does this tell you about what is important to you?

LEARNING: When it is pouring out, let it pour. Sometimes the gratitude just flows and then I realize that I don’t want to share it all so I dam it up without writing it down. But on New Year’s Eve I let it flow and I ended up with 12 things! I didn’t share them all but what a delight to see how they kept flowing as I wrote them all down.

FORGOTTEN GRATITUDE: Last week I was also grateful for having lunch with my friend who I’ve missed so much … Closing a door that I needed to close for a long time now … Rewatching the double rainbow video, hahaha so good … Fessing up about my launch fears and wanting it to be better, better, better … Stopped in my tracks by the tilted half moon … The total relief of optimism after a bunch of hopelessness … A nice injection of heaviness thanks to the new Clutch album and so much Motorhead.
